Knowledge Partnership Programme
Preserving Northeast India's languages through community collaboration
Partner with MWire Labs to document indigenous knowledge, train local talent, and build language datasets that preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
About the Programme
The Knowledge Partnership Programme connects NGOs, cultural organizations, and community groups across Northeast India with MWire Labs to co-create language resources and AI tools. We offer co-branded internships where students work directly with your organization to document languages, collect oral histories, and build datasets that benefit both the community and cutting-edge AI research.
This isn’t about extracting data-it’s about building together. Your organization gets trained interns, technical capabilities, and recognition. Students gain real-world experience. Communities see their languages preserved and empowered through technology.
How It Works
Partnership Setup
We work with your organization to identify which languages need documentation, what cultural knowledge should be preserved, and which communities to engage with.
Resource Placement
MWire Labs recruits and trains students specifically for your project. These resources are passionate about language preservation and receive structured training in data collection and community engagement over 4-8 weeks.
Fieldwork & Documentation
Under your organization’s guidance, team members conduct interviews with native speakers and cultural knowledge holders. They record audio, transcribe conversations, document context, and build annotated datasets with proper attribution. All work respects community protocols and cultural sensitivities.
Deliverables & Recognition
Your organization receives a documented cultural knowledge archive, co-branded certificates/recognitions, a formal MoU with MWire Labs, and acknowledgment in research publications. Members gain hands-on experience, technical training, a small stipend to cover expenses, letters of recommendation, and potential co-authorship on papers. Communities benefit from preserved linguistic and cultural heritage accessible through future AI tools.
What You Provide
Your organization provides access to communities and native speakers, cultural context and guidance on sensitive topics, supervision and mentorship for team members deployed during fieldwork, and support with local logistics where needed.
What MWire Labs Provides
We handle recruitment and technical training, provide data collection protocols and tools, ensure quality assurance and dataset structuring, cover stipends for expenses, create academic publication pathways for collected data, and build long-term partnership opportunities.
Who Should Partner With Us
We’re looking for NGOs and non-profits focused on cultural preservation, indigenous rights, or language revitalization. Community organizations working with tribal or ethnic groups, educational trusts and literacy programs in Northeast India, museums and heritage documentation projects, and youth organizations connecting young people with their linguistic roots are all ideal partners.
Impact & Recognition
Your organization gains capacity building through trained volunteers with language tech skills, visibility through co-branding on all materials, academic credit via acknowledgment in papers and datasets, network access to the AI research community and funding opportunities, and tangible digital archives of cultural knowledge.
Communities benefit from preserved language and cultural knowledge for future generations, empowered youth engaged in cultural preservation using modern technology, and access to potential AI tools like translation apps, voice assistants, and educational resources built on this data.
Current Focus Languages
We’re actively seeking partners for documentation projects across all Northeast Indian languages. This includes Khasi, Pnar, War, Lyngngam, Garo, A’chik, Mizo, Hmar, Paite, Meitei, Tangkhul, Thadou, Assamese and its dialects, Naga languages, Bodo, Kokborok, and other Sino-Tibetan languages.
