MWire Labs is Northeast India’s first AI research and deployment lab; building foundational language technology for the region’s 220+ indigenous languages and putting it to work in the real world.
We started in Shillong, Meghalaya in 2025 as the AI division of MWire Consulting, which has delivered 30+ government IT projects across the region. We know how different sectors works here. We know the connectivity constraints. We know the languages. That’s our edge.
Our Story
2019
MWire Consulting founded
Started as a B2B and government IT services company in Shillong. Delivered digital infrastructure for Meghalaya, portals, dashboards, and automation systems for public departments.
2024
The gap became obvious
While building government systems, we kept hitting the same wall; AI tools that didn’t understand local languages, scripts, or context. No Khasi NLP. No Garo ASR. Nothing built for here.
2026
Research meets deployment
Papers at EACL, ACL, EMNLP. 33+ open models. NVIDIA Inception. AIKosh listed. And real deployments, government tools, offline voice systems, document processing in local languages.
2025
MWire Labs launched
We pivoted to build what was missing. MWire Labs launched as the AI research and deployment division, focused entirely on foundational language AI for Northeast India’s indigenous languages.
What we stand for
Every model starts from the language, its grammar, its community, its script. Not translated from English. Not adapted. Built from scratch for each language’s structure.
Languages first
Deployment over benchmarks
We measure success by whether a model runs on a district health worker’s phone, not whether it tops a leaderboard. Real-world use is the only benchmark that matters.
Open and transparent
Every model we build is published openly. Every dataset is shared. Every paper is written up. The communities we work with deserve to own the technology built from their voices.
