About MWirelabs
The Research & Advancement Wing of Mwire
Bridging the Digital Divide, One Language at a Time
MWirelabs was born from a simple realization: the world's most advanced AI systems couldn't understand a word of Garo, Pnar or Wancho?
In 2019, MWire began as a technology solutions provider, building digital systems for government departments and organizations across Meghalaya.
As we worked closely with communities across Northeast India, we saw firsthand how language became a barrier, not just to communication, but to participation in the digital economy itself.
By 2024, we made a strategic pivot. We established MWirelabs as our dedicated AI research division with a clear mission: build language AI from scratch for the 45+ million people across Northeast India whose languages have been ignored by global tech companies.
Today, we're among the few organization in India training foundational language models specifically for Northeast Indian languages, from generative AI to multilingual embeddings to classical NLP systems.
Our models power government services, support researchers worldwide, and prove that inclusive AI isn't just possible; it's essential.
What we stand for!
Our Mission
To advance open research in AI with a focus on inclusivity, safety, and cultural context. We build the complete AI stack for Northeast India: language models, speech systems, vision AI, and deployment-ready tools; ensuring technology serves every community in their own voice.
Our Vision
A future where language is never a barrier to accessing technology, information, or opportunity. Where AI understands not just words, but cultural context. Where communities from Meghalaya to Arunachal Pradesh can interact with technology as naturally as they speak with their neighbors.
Our team
Badal Nyalang
Founder & Lead Researcher
Badal leads the AI, data, and digital transformation projects across government, community organisations, and rural development programs in Northeast India. His work centers on solving real, on-the-ground challenges through technology that is simple, locally relevant, and built for long-term impact.
For the past several years, he has worked directly with field teams, government departments, agriculture networks, cultural bodies, and educational institutions to design systems that improve data workflows, strengthen decision-making, and preserve linguistic and cultural heritage.
Chelang Pala
Solutions Architect
With over a decade of hands-on experience, Chelang drives the solutions side of MWirelabs, turning ideas into scalable, real-world systems. As a seasoned full-stack developer, he thrives on implementing complex architectures with clarity and precision, ensuring that every deployment is robust, ethical, and impact-driven.
His expertise spans frontend finesse to backend resilience, making him the go-to implementer for translating vision into working infrastructure. At MWirelabs, he anchors the bridge between research and delivery, ensuring our region-first AI initiatives are not just conceptual, but operational and accessible.
Amazel Lyngdoh
Data Strategy Lead
Since joining MWirelabs in 2020, Amazel has been at the core of our data journey. She has led the data team with precision, driving analysis, reporting, and large-scale collection efforts that fuel our NLP pipelines. Beyond technical expertise, she now oversees management and data operations, ensuring that every dataset is ethically sourced, validated, and ready for impact.
Her leadership bridges the gap between raw data and actionable insights, making her indispensable to MWirelabs’ mission of building region-first AI infrastructure for Northeast languages.
Built by a Team That Cares
MWirelabs operates with a dedicated research and engineering team focused on language AI, supported by the broader technology team at our parent company, MWire. Our team combines expertise in machine learning, computational linguistics, software engineering, and deployment operations all united by a mission to make AI accessible for Northeast India.

OUR VALUES
Inclusivity First
We build AI for communities and languages that deserve equal representation in technology. Linguistic diversity enriches our work and drives our mission.
Move Fast, Learn Faster
We prioritize rapid iteration and real-world deployment. Speed allows us to learn from actual use cases and continuously improve our models for the communities we serve.
Impact-Driven Research
We measure success by the communities we serve and the barriers we remove. Our research matters most when it creates tangible, positive change in people's lives.
Our Foundation Models
We create and open-source foundational models designed to support research, education, and practical applications.
Kren v1
Generative Mode
Kren v1 is a publicly documented encoder→decoder conversion producing a generative language model for an Indian language (Khasi).
